Biography

Marilyn Agrelo made her directorial debut with *Mad Hot Ballroom*, which had a theatrical run of over 24 weeks and became one of the top 10 highest-grossing documentary films. The film is currently in pre-production for a potential Broadway adaptation.

Agrelo has directed episodes of the Emmy-winning children's series *The Electric Company* and *Sesame Street*. She has also created short films such as *No Small Parts* and *Good Muslim Girls*. She has produced documentary shorts for the human rights organization Women for Afghan Women and has served as an envoy with American Film Showcase for five years. This cultural diplomacy initiative is a collaboration between the U.S. State Department and the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Agrelo has led workshops in Tajikistan, Bolivia, Panama, Pakistan, and on two separate trips to Iraq.

Her work has been screened at most major international film festivals and has aired on HBO, Showtime, and PBS.
