Biography

Mark Freuder Knopfler is a British musician known as the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of the rock band Dire Straits, which he co-founded in 1977. Alongside bassist John Illsley, he remained a consistent member of the band throughout its 18-year career until its dissolution in 1995. After Dire Straits disbanded, Knopfler continued his musical career as a solo artist, pursuing an independent path in music. His contributions with Dire Straits and his solo work have established him as a respected figure in rock and popular music.
