Biography

At age fourteen, Norman Howell's rodeo experience led to an acting role in the 1971 film *The Cowboys*. He learned to throw his first movie punch from John Wayne, who, along with Yakima Canutt, pioneered modern movie fight choreography. This experience suggested that Norman might favor stunt work over acting. His career quickly expanded, and he served as a stunt double for John Travolta, Richard Chamberlain, Peter O'Toole, Bruce Willis, Mark Harmon, and Dirk Benedict, as well as for Roger Moore in a James Bond film. Howell's stunt coordination career began with *Footloose*, and Kevin Costner provided him with a major opportunity as a stunt coordinator on *Dances with Wolves* and as a second unit director on *The Bodyguard*, *Open Range*, and *Mr. Brooks*. Norman Howell's professionalism, creativity, and execution have earned him recognition as one of the top stunt coordinators and second unit directors in the industry.
