Biography
Norman Frederick Jewison was a Canadian filmmaker known for directing socially and politically relevant films that brought complex issues to mainstream audiences. Over his career, he received multiple accolades, including three Academy Award nominations for Best Director across three different decades for *In the Heat of the Night* (1967), *Fiddler on the Roof* (1971), and *Moonstruck* (1987). Jewison was also nominated for four additional Oscars, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award, and he won a BAFTA Award. In 1999, he received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
