Biography

Paul Kruger was a prominent South African politician and military leader in the 19th century, serving as State President of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1900. Known by the nickname "Oom Paul," he became internationally recognized as a symbol of the Boer resistance during the Second Boer War (1899–1902), representing the Transvaal and the Orange Free State in their conflict with Britain. Kruger is often regarded as an embodiment of Afrikanerdom and is remembered by his admirers as a tragic folk hero.
