Biography

David Paul Scofield was an English actor with a six-decade career. He achieved the Triple Crown of Acting by winning an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Tony Award. Scofield was known for his Shakespearean performances, and was regarded as one of the greatest interpreters of the playwright's works. He declined a knighthood. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1956 and later received the title of Companion of Honour (CH) in 2001.
