Biography

Peter Outerbridge, one of five children with two older sisters and two older brothers, was raised in Toronto, Ontario. His father was a practicing lawyer, while his mother studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. He comes from a family with artistic ties, including opera singer Jon Vickers, who was his uncle in all but blood, and his cousin Billy, a regular performer at the Stratford Festival. Outerbridge has noted that his father's career as a trial lawyer brought a sense of theatrics to his paternal side.

After high school, he began his acting career by enrolling at the University of Victoria to study acting. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and co-founded the theatre group Way Off Broadway, with whom he toured Canada for four years. In the early 1990s, he began working in television, with early credits including roles on *21 Jump Street* and *The Commish*. His first feature films were *Paris, France* and *Cool Runnings*.

Outerbridge received early recognition for his work in *Marine Life* and *Chasing Cain*, which earned him nominations for Genie and Gemini Awards. He continued to build a diverse career in film and television. Among his most notable roles are that of Matt, a young student in the critically acclaimed film *Kissed*, who becomes involved with a necrophiliac; Judy, a transsexual character in *Better Than Chocolate*; and Theodore Gray, a sexual assailant in the thriller *The Rendering*.

Since the early 1990s, Outerbridge has remained a consistent presence in both film and television. He portrayed three different characters on the science fiction series *The Outer Limits*, had a recurring role in season three of Chris Carter's *Millennium*, and played the lead in three feature-length episodes of the 2004 version of *The Murdoch Mysteries*. In the same year, he was cast as David Sandström, a headstrong scientist, in *ReGenesis*, a science-themed series that aired for four years and was broadcast in over 20 countries. The show was nominated for several Gemini Awards.

In more recent years, Outerbridge played George Brown, one of Canada's political founding fathers, in the period drama *John A.: Birth of a Country*, for which he won the 2013 Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Series. He has also had a recurring role in *Nikita*, a modern spy reboot from The CW, and appeared as a special guest star in *Bomb Girls*, a World War II-era drama on Global TV. He has made occasional guest appearances on *Suits* and *The Listener*, and is set to appear in *Dark Rising: Warrior of Worlds*.

In 2000, Outerbridge married Canadian actress Tammy Isbell, with whom he has co-starred in *The Murdoch Mysteries* (2004) and *ReGenesis* (2004). The couple met in 1994 while filming an episode of *The Outer Limits* (1995), in which they played a young couple. The couple has two sons, twins Thomas and Samuel, born in 2004. Outerbridge and his family reside in Toronto.
