Biography

Simon Finney (born 16 September 1958) is a British camera operator. Born in London, England, he is the son of acclaimed actor Albert Finney and Jane Wenham. He has been married to Denise Elliott since 1991.

Finney began his journey in film behind the scenes in the late 1980s, starting as a clapper loader on productions such as *Henry V* (1989) and *Much Ado About Nothing* (1993). Over the years, he climbed the ranks—serving as second assistant camera, focus puller, first assistant camera, and second unit director of photography—before establishing himself as a camera operator around the year 2000. His impressive early credits include work on *Four Weddings and a Funeral* (1994), *A Knight's Tale* (2001), *EverAfter* (1998), and *The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy* (2005).

Over the years, Simon Finney has contributed his camera-operating expertise to numerous blockbuster films and high-profile projects. Among his notable credits are *Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone* (2001), *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* (2004), *Elizabeth: The Golden Age* (2007), *Johnny English* (2003), *Zero Dark Thirty* (2012), *Les Misérables* (2012), *John Carter* (2012), *Skyfall* (2012), *Wonder Woman* (2017), *Assassin's Creed* (2016), *Tomb Raider* (2018), *Wonder Woman 1984* (2020), *Barbie* (2023), *Wicked* (2024), and *Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy* (2025). He has frequently operated as an A-, B-, or C-camera operator depending on the project and unit, showing a breadth of adaptability across genres and scales.

In recognition of his craftsmanship and dedication, Finney was nominated for Camera Operator of the Year in the Film category at the Society of Camera Operators (SOC) awards for his work on *Wicked* (2024), where he served as B-camera operator.
