Biography

William Lee was an American actor best known for his role as Mr. Hooper, the original proprietor of Hooper's Store on *Sesame Street*. He was one of the four original human characters on the show, which premiered in November 1969. Lee remained a consistent presence on *Sesame Street* until his death on December 7, 1982, at the age of 74. His portrayal of Mr. Hooper was a beloved and enduring part of the show's early years.
