Cells at Work!

A Red Blood Cell is attacked by Pneumococci while performing her duties, and a White Blood Cell (Neutrophil) comes to her aid. Determined to protect the body, the Neutrophil pursues the escaped Pneumococcus, which has taken refuge in an unexpected location.

Red Blood Cell witnesses an injury and observes the arrival of White Blood Cells (Neutrophils) to combat invading pathogens. They face a difficult fight against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. The episode explores whether the Neutrophils can successfully protect the body from infection.

A naive T cell, inexperienced and fearful, fails to confront an influenza outbreak and abandons the fight as more seasoned immune cells battle the infection. Overcome with doubt, he is comforted by a dendritic cell, who offers him reassurance and guidance.
