Dark Winds

Navajo Tribal Policeman Joe Leaphorn teams up with his new deputy, Jim Chee, who returns to the reservation for the first time since childhood, as they investigate a string of crimes involving both human and supernatural threats.

Leaphorn and Chee investigate the Big Rock Motel murders by questioning a surviving witness, while Chee consults the coroner, who is still unable to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, Sergeant Manuelito uncovers a disturbing clue related to the case.

Leaphorn retrieves the bodies of murder victims while his niece undergoes a traditional coming-of-age ceremony known as Kinaaldá. At the same time, Manuelito and Chee search for a missing Mormon family.

Leaphorn believes several crimes on the reservation are connected and makes a significant breakthrough in the investigation. He invites Chee to dinner to discuss the case, while Manuelito uncovers an important clue of her own.

Leaphorn uncovers unexpected complexities in the case as a key suspect is arrested, leading him to question his initial assumptions. Manuelito confronts a deeply personal and terrifying situation, while Chee is forced to weigh his professional obligations against his loyalty to his community.
