Following a series of terrorist attacks that trigger a nuclear disaster and devastate much of North America, the inhabitants of a small Kansas town must adapt to a drastically changed world.

As a nuclear blast from Denver threatens to reach Jericho within an hour, Jake must urgently evacuate residents to safety, but finds the official shelter insufficient and seeks an alternative. Meanwhile, Emily encounters complications when she is picked up by individuals she believes to be police officers.

Jake organizes a group to analyze a satellite broadcast from Asia and decides to send four search parties in different directions to gather more information about the world beyond Jericho.

Jake encounters a stranger suffering from radiation poisoning and faces the difficult choice of whether to assist him. At the same time, the hospital's generator is running low on fuel, and the residents discover that their supplies are also dwindling.
