The story centers on Kira and Rei, two high school students with contrasting personalities. Kira is an introverted artist, while Rei is an outgoing playboy with a hidden violent streak. Their friendship begins—and eventually evolves into a romance—after Rei discovers a drawing Kira made on the back of a map she gave him. As their relationship deepens, both Kira and Rei confront the troubled pasts they have kept hidden. Masao, another student at their school, has a personal connection to Rei's past and reenters their lives with the intent of pushing Rei to revert to the person he once was.
