McHale's Navy

Quinton McHale, an experienced South Pacific Sea Dog, was commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve at the beginning of World War II. McHale was appointed Skipper of Torpedo Patrol (PT) Boat #73, which was stationed at the U.S. Naval Installation on the island of Taratupa in the Southwest Pacific. The crew of PT-73, referred to as the "73 Family," included a variety of characters such as a con man and amateur magician, a womanizing hunk, a dedicated family man, a guitar-playing, moonshine-making Tennessee native, and a deserter from the Japanese Navy who was an excellent cook.
