The Sons of Anarchy (SOA) are an outlaw motorcycle club with numerous charters across the United States and internationally. The series centers on the original and founding charter, the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original, commonly known by the acronym SAMCRO, Sam Crow, or simply Redwood Charter. The charter runs both legal and illegal enterprises in the small town of Charming, California. These include gun-running, a motorcycle garage, and involvement in the porn film industry. Clay, the charter president, prefers a traditional, violent approach; Jax, his stepson and the club's vice president, seeks to reform and modernize the club's operations.
