Stargate SG-1 begins approximately one year after the events of the feature film, following the United States government's discovery that an ancient alien device known as the Stargate can access a network of similar devices across numerous planets. SG-1 is an elite Air Force special operations team, one of more than two dozen Earth-based teams tasked with exploring the galaxy and defending against alien threats, including the Goa'uld, Replicators, and the Ori.
