Biography

Morena Baccarin was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to actress Vera Setta and journalist Fernando Baccarin. Her uncle is actor Ivan Setta. She has Italian, Lebanese, and Portuguese/Brazilian heritage. At the age of 10, she moved to New York with her family when her father was transferred there. Baccarin attended LaGuardia High School of Music and Performing Arts, followed by the Juilliard School. While remaining in New York, she worked in theater, including a role in the Central Park production of Anton Chekhov's *The Seagull*, where she served as understudy to Natalie Portman. She also appeared in several films. After starring in *Roger Dodger* (2002), she relocated to Los Angeles, where she was noticed by Joss Whedon, who cast her in his short-lived cult sci-fi series *Firefly* (2002). Since then, she has remained a regular presence on television screens.
