Summer's Lease
Molly Pargeter is a woman in her forties and the mother of three daughters, living a quiet and uneventful life in 1980s West London. She feels self-conscious about her weight and is in a loveless marriage with her husband Hugh, who is having an affair. Throughout much of her life, she has turned to detective novels and books on art for solace, particularly those about the fifteenth-century Italian fresco painter Piero Della Francesca. After seeing a small advertisement in a newspaper for a villa for rent in Tuscany, Italy, Molly travels there to view the property, "La Felicita," and decides to book it for the family's August vacation.
