Nia and Brainy travel back to 2009 to retrieve an object that can help Supergirl, who is trapped in the Phantom Zone. At the same time, a young Cat Grant arrives in Midvale, believing there is an important story to be uncovered.

The second installment of the flashback episodes follows young Kara as she encounters Kryptonite for the first time, while Nia and Brainy find themselves captured by alien invaders. Meanwhile, a younger version of Cat Grant may inadvertently prevent Supergirl from escaping the Phantom Zone.

With help from Kara, Kelly investigates and uncovers abuse at the prison where Orlando is held. At the same time, Nyxly appears in one of Nia's dreams and asks for her assistance.

Meanwhile, Lena travels to her mother's birthplace in Newfoundland to explore her heritage but faces unexpected hostility from the local community.

Kelly is shocked by the destruction of the Ormfell building and the resulting injuries, including to Joey, but becomes frustrated by the overwhelmed hospital and lack of support. As Supergirl is occupied fighting Nyxly, Kelly takes initiative, embracing her role as Guardian. With the help of Supergirl, Alex, Diggle, and their team, she works to restore order and justice to the affected community.

Supergirl and her team compete against Nyxly to control a magical totem that governs courage, leading to a battle in which both sides obtain a portion of the artifact. A challenge is introduced, stating that the first to pass a test of courage will claim the entire totem. Meanwhile, Lena continues to grapple with understanding her newly discovered abilities.
