As the Cold War escalates, the marriage of KGB spies Philip and Elizabeth Jennings grows both more intense and more complex. Their relationship is tested by the arrival of Stan Beeman, an FBI agent who moves in next door.

Philip and Elizabeth are tasked with covertly installing a listening device in the office of Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, though their mission faces complications due to a resistant housemaid at his residence.
