Biography

Margo Martindale (born July 18, 1951) is an American actress who has worked in film, stage, and television. She received an Emmy Award in 2011 for her performance as Mags Bennett in *Justified*. She has appeared in supporting roles in several films, including *The Hours*, *Million Dollar Baby* as the mother of Hilary Swank's character, *The Firm*, *Lorenzo's Oil*, *Marvin's Room*, *The Savages*, and *Paris, je t'aime*. She was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in 2004.

Margo Martindale was born on July 18, 1951, in Jacksonville, Texas, to William Everett and Margaret (Pruitt) Martindale. Her father owned and operated a lumber company in the area and was also a champion dog handler in Texas and the southern United States. Margo was the youngest of three children and the only daughter. Her oldest brother is Billy Martindale, a professional golfer and golf course designer, and her middle brother, Bobby Tim, died in 2004. During her school years, Martindale participated in golf, cheerleading, and drama, and was crowned "Football Sweetheart" and "Miss Jacksonville High School 1969." After graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1969, she attended Lon Morris College before transferring to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. While at Michigan, she also studied during the summer at Harvard University, where she performed onstage with future film and television stars Jonathan Frakes and Christopher Reeve.
