Meet the most beloved sitcom horse of the 1990s, Mr. Ed, a talking horse who starred in his own eponymous television series that aired from 1961 to 1966. Created by writer Arthur Q. Bryan, who also provided the horse's voice, the show centered on the comedic misadventures of Wilbur Post, a newspaper editor who discovers that his new horse can talk. Mr. Ed became a cultural phenomenon, known for its clever dialogue and the dynamic between Mr. Ed and his owner, played by actor Alan Young. The show was one of the first to feature a talking animal as a central character and was a staple of American television during its run.
