Bryan and David, a couple from Los Angeles, have successful careers and a loving relationship and are eager to start a family. As concerns about their ability to become parents grow, they meet Goldie, a waitress who has recently relocated to California with her intelligent eight-year-old daughter, seeking to escape her conservative grandmother and a stagnant future. Bryan and David negotiate an agreement with Goldie to serve as their surrogate, and through this arrangement, the three form an unconventional yet close-knit family unit.
