The Second World War In Colour (1999) is a three-part documentary that presents hours of previously unseen color film footage from World War II. As most newsreel footage was shot in black and white, the DVD provides a new visual perspective on the conflict. Dramatic color footage dating back to 1933 includes home movies of Adolf Hitler and his associates, the impact of the Blitzkrieg, daily life on the home front, D-Day and the Allied invasion of France, British bombers facing German fighters, the horrors of the Holocaust encountered by troops entering Germany, and the celebration of the Allies' final victory. The documentary features John Thaw's narration intercut with spoken excerpts from the letters and diaries of soldiers, survivors, and victims of the war, offering a powerful account of this significant period in world history.
