The Stand

A deadly virus escapes from a government lab, killing nearly everyone it infects. A small group of survivors, including gas station worker Stu Redmond, musician Larry Underwood, and others, are studied for their immunity. As they begin experiencing strange dreams involving an elderly African-American woman and a sinister figure, the survivors grapple with the mystery of their survival.

As the plague leaves only the immune alive, factions of good and evil begin to form. A group following visions of Mother Abigail makes their way to Nebraska, where she directs them to head west toward Colorado. Meanwhile, Randall Flagg strengthens his own forces by freeing prisoners and recruiting others through visions.

Hundreds gather in Boulder, Colorado, under the leadership of Mother Abigail, but Randall Flagg sends Nadine Cross to infiltrate the community. After failing to seduce Larry, Nadine turns her attention to Harold. As the group begins to settle, Mother Abigail suddenly departs, prompting concerns about Flagg's activities in Las Vegas, leading three residents to travel west to investigate.

The group faces the final battle between good and evil as they move toward their fates. With Mother Abigail absent and the committee weakened by an explosion, some members head west while others pursue separate paths, each encountering dangers orchestrated by Randall Flagg. As Flagg's influence begins to wane, Trashcan Man prepares for a final, dramatic act.
