Victory at Sea

*Victory at Sea* is a documentary television series focusing on naval warfare during World War II. It was first broadcast by NBC in the United States from 1952 to 1953 and later condensed into a film in 1954. The original soundtrack, composed by Richard Rodgers and Robert Russell Bennett, had excerpts re-recorded and released as record albums. The TV series consisted of 26 half-hour episodes, airing Sundays at 3pm in most markets, beginning October 26, 1952, and concluding May 3, 1953. The series received an Emmy award in 1954 for "best public affairs program" and helped establish historic "compilation" documentaries as a successful television format. More than 13,000 hours of footage from the U.S., British, German, and Japanese navies collected during World War II were reviewed for the production of the series.
