“From Guadalcanal to Okinawa...the Marine air-devils blazed a trail of glory...while the women they left behind fought battles of their own!”
Synopsis
Major Daniel Kirby assumes command of a squadron of Marine fliers just before they are set to enter combat. Although the men are well-intentioned, Kirby finds them undisciplined and inclined to seek easy solutions rather than take necessary actions. The underlying issue stems from the second-in-command, Captain Carl "Griff" Griffin. While Griff is the most skilled flier in the group, Kirby considers him an ineffective leader, as he is unwilling to make the tough decisions required of commanders—specifically, the difficult choice to place men in dangerous situations, fully aware that they may be killed.
