Synopsis
Lou Gehrig was a professional baseball player who is best known for his long and successful career with the New York Yankees. He was born on June 19, 1903, in New York City. Gehrig played baseball at Columbia University before being signed by the Yankees in 1923. He made his major league debut in 1925 and quickly became a key player for the team. Gehrig was known for his powerful hitting and consistent performance, and he played in 2,130 consecutive games, a record at the time. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. In 1939, Gehrig was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease. He passed away on June 2, 1941, at the age of 37.
