Biography

Gary Cooper was born to Alice Cooper and Charles Cooper. He attended Dunstable School in England, Helena High School in Montana, and Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa (then known as Iowa College). His first stage experience occurred during high school and college. Afterward, he worked as an extra for one year before securing a part in a two-reeler produced by independent filmmaker Hans Tiesler. Eileen Sedgwick was his first leading lady. He then appeared in *The Winning of Barbara Worth* (1926) for United Artists before moving to Paramount. While at Paramount, he appeared in a small role in *Wings* (1927), *It* (1927), and other films.
