Arlene Matza-Jackson

Arlene is a multifaceted professional with a long career in the music industry. She has worked as an A&R Executive, Songwriter, Producer, and Music Supervisor, contributing to the creative fabric of the music industry during its golden era and beyond. Her career began at Columbia Records (now Sony Music), where she served as Manager of A&R for over a decade. During this time, she collaborated with artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Ringo Starr, Kenny Loggins, Burton Cummings, Heart, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Journey. She also worked with notable producers including Randy Jackson, Bruce Botnick, Bill Botrell, Daryl Simmons, Ted Templeman, Peter Asher, and David Foster.

As a songwriter and producer, Arlene has written and produced songs recorded by artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Kenny Loggins, David Foster, Celine Dion, The Emotions, Nia Peeples, Hadas, Grand Illusion, Emma Hunton, Code, Aiym, Ruby Falls, and Michaela Paige. She has maintained a long-term working relationship with Kenny Loggins, co-producing four of his albums, including the acclaimed "Leap of Faith," and assisting in the production of his benefit concerts. Her songs have also appeared in film, television, and commercials. She contributed to the TV series "FAME" (directed by Debbie Allen in the mid-1980s) and "FAME/LA" (MGM in the late 1990s). Feature film credits include the opening and end titles for "Flamingo Kid" (directed by Gary Marshall), co-writing the end title for "Fresh Horses" with Kenny Loggins and David Foster, and co-producing and co-writing the end title "We Got It Goin' On" for the Disney film "First Kid" (starring Sinbad).

In the late 1980s and 1990s, Arlene expanded her role into independent Music Supervision and Consulting for film and television. She worked with Michael Dilbeck (Executive VP/Soundtracks, Sony Pictures) and Becky Mancuso (President of Magstrip Entertainment & Senior VP, Sony/Warner) on projects such as "The Dream Team" (Imagine Films). She also collaborated with Sharal Churchill (Music Supervisor) on films including "Benny & Joon," "Untamed Heart," "Meteor Man," and "Son Of The Pink Panther" (all MGM). Additional projects include "Wayne's World" (Paramount Pictures, directed by Penelope Spheeris), "It's My Party" (MGM), "Natural Born Killers" (Oliver Stone & Bud Carr), "Aspen Extreme" (Touchstone Films), "Rich Girl" (Joel Bender Film West), and the mini-series "The Jacksons, An American Dream."

Arlene continues to develop artists and co-write with producers through her studio, Delphinus Studios, and has built a diverse song catalog under Alethea Music Catalog. In recent years, she has expanded into screen and television writing, having studied under notable screenwriting mentors at UCLA and developed a feature film script and a TV series pilot. She has also contributed to education, serving as an adjunct professor in Songwriting at UCLA Extension for over two decades, where she received the Dean's Distinguished Instructor Award. She also pioneered the first Songwriting classes at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood. Her ongoing work in songwriting, television, and screenwriting reflects a continued evolution of her creative career.
