Biography

Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was a Spanish Baroque painter who is considered one of the most significant artists in Western art history. He worked as the principal court painter for King Philip IV of Spain and Portugal during the Spanish Golden Age. Velázquez is known for his technical skill and his innovative use of composition and realism in his paintings. His work had a lasting impact on the development of European painting.
