Biography

James Howard Woods is an American actor known for his intense, fast-talking performances in film, television, and theater. He has earned three Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe, along with Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Woods began his career in minor roles on and off-Broadway, making his Broadway debut in *The Penny Wars* (1969), followed by roles in *Borstal Boy* (1970), *The Trial of the Catonsville Nine* (1971), and *Moonchildren* (1972). His early film appearances include *The Visitors* (1972), *The Way We Were* (1973), and *The Gambler* (1974). He also starred alongside Meryl Streep in the NBC miniseries *Holocaust* (1978).
