Biography

Ken Russell pursued several careers before becoming a film director; he was a still photographer, a dancer, and served in the Army, but ultimately found his path in film. He began his career making several short films, which led to his acclaimed television work of the 1960s, noted for its attention to detail and opulent visuals. His third feature film, *Women in Love* (1969), was a major success that brought him international recognition. In the 1970s, his creative output flourished. Over the next two decades, he directed a series of distinctive films, many of which featured the flamboyant style that critics often dismissed but that many viewers found compelling. He is remembered as a controversial and visionary artist with a unique approach to oddball dramas, marked by striking imagery and compelling themes.
