Biography

LeVar Burton is an American actor, director, and television host whose career spans entertainment and education. He is known for portraying Geordi La Forge, the blind engineer on the starship Enterprise in *Star Trek: The Next Generation* (1987–1994). Earlier he played Kunta Kinte in the ABC miniseries *Roots* (1977), a role that earned him an Emmy nomination.

Burton also worked on the PBS Kids educational series *Reading Rainbow*, serving as host, executive producer, and narrator for 23 years (1983–2006). His work on the program resulted in 12 Daytime Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.
