Biography

Michael Edward Mills is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer best known as the bass guitarist and backing vocalist for the alternative rock band R.E.M., which he co-founded. In addition to bass, he played keyboards and contributed occasional lead vocals. Mills was heavily involved in the band's songwriting and is the only R.E.M. member to have received formal musical training. His contributions were integral to the band's sound throughout most of its career.
