Biography

Princess Diana was a member of the British royal family and the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. She was the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. Diana's activism and public presence contributed to her widespread popularity and international recognition. Born into British nobility, she spent much of her childhood on the royal family's Sandringham estate. Though she did not excel academically, she showed talent in music, dance, and sports. Diana gained public attention in 1981 when she became engaged to Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, following a brief courtship. They married at St Paul's Cathedral in 1981, making her Princess of Wales. The couple had two sons, William and Harry, who were second and third in line to the British throne at the time. Their relationship began to unravel in 1992, and the details of their marital difficulties became widely publicized. The couple officially divorced in 1996. As Princess of Wales, Diana performed royal duties and represented the Queen at events across the Commonwealth realms. She was known for her distinctive approach to charity work, initially focusing on children and youth, and later on issues such as AIDS, landmine removal, cancer, and mental health. Diana was also a prominent fashion figure in the 1980s and 1990s. Her death in a car crash in a Paris tunnel in 1997 and the televised nature of her funeral drew significant media coverage and public mourning. Her influence continues to be felt within the royal family and British society.
