Biography

Vince Edwards was born in Brooklyn to Italian immigrant parents. From an early age, he aspired to a career in theater. A swimming champion in high school, he earned an athletic scholarship to Ohio State University, where he was part of their National Championship swimming team. His swimming career was cut short by an appendicitis operation, which ended his Olympic prospects. He later studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and became a contract actor at Paramount Pictures in the early 1950s. In the 1960s, he reached the height of his popularity playing the brilliant but confrontational young Dr. Casey on the television series *Ben Casey* (1961).
