After Peter drinks heavily at a bachelor party despite promising Lois he wouldn't, he is fired from his job at the Happy-go-Lucky toy factory for showing up hungover. Peter then applies for welfare, but due to a mix-up, he receives a check for $150,000. When Lois discovers what has happened, Peter decides to return the money by dumping it from a blimp during the Super Bowl. As a result, he is arrested, and his family comes to his rescue.

While teaching Meg to drive, Peter accidentally crashes into the town's satellite dish, causing the city's cable service to go out. He promises Meg that if she takes the blame for the accident, he will buy her a car. The absence of television drives Peter to the brink of insanity, which in turn causes chaos for the entire family. At the same time, after refusing to eat the broccoli Lois gives him, Stewie decides to build a weather control device with the goal of eliminating all vegetables.

In the episode, Peter allows Meg to attend a party with her new friend, which upsets Lois because it coincides with Stewie's birthday. Unbeknownst to Meg, the party is actually a meeting of a cult. Later, Peter goes to pick up Meg, and the Cult Leader follows him. Stewie interprets the Cult Leader as the "Man in White," believing he is trying to take him back to the womb.

At Chris's soccer game, Peter gets into a fight with a woman he mistakes for a man and punches her in the face. After being placed under house arrest, Peter grows restless and turns the basement into a full bar. Lois begins singing each night and becomes the main attraction. Meanwhile, Stewie builds a time machine to avoid teething pain, but ends up bringing back much more than he intended.

When the Griffin family gets new neighbors who move in next door, Lois quickly becomes friends with Bonnie, Meg soon becomes attracted to their son, Kevin, and Peter becomes annoyed by the entire situation. After Peter injures the best player on his company's baseball team, Mr. Weed forces him to find a replacement, so Peter quickly changes his mind about his neighbors and invites Joe to play. When Joe shows up at the game, Peter learns that he is in a wheelchair. Joe ends up being the star of the game, which makes Peter jealous, as he wants to be a hero too. Peter ends up trying to stop a bank robbery to prove his value, but ends up getting caught up in the whole situation.

Chris loses interest in being a youth scout, as he would rather pursue drawing and art instead. The Scout Master then kicks Chris out of the scouts. Peter then takes the family to New York City to try to get Chris reinstated into the scouts. After Peter takes a wrong turn on the way, the family ends up at a Native American casino. Lois then becomes obsessed with the slot machines while Peter goes on a vision quest to prove that he has Native American blood in him.

During a heat wave in Quahog, Peter convinces Brian to enter a dog show in hopes of winning $500 to buy a new air conditioner for the family. After a disagreement over a failed trick, Brian leaves the family, and Peter replaces him with a cat. Brian faces difficulty asserting his rights and eventually ends up at the animal pound. Peter manages to rescue him by bribing the judge.
