Playhouse 90 is an American television anthology series that aired on CBS from 1956 to 1960, comprising 133 episodes in total. The show was produced at CBS Television City in Los Angeles, California. At a time when most live anthology drama series in the mid-1950s were typically one hour in length, Playhouse 90 stood out by featuring hour-and-a-half dramas, a format intended to be distinctive. The concept originated with Frank Stanton, a prominent and visionary executive under CBS chairman William S. Paley, during a meeting to generate new programming ideas. The project was developed by Hubbell Robinson, a CBS vice president who, although not credited on screen, is frequently regarded as the series' creator.
