The Knick

The series premiere follows accomplished surgeon Dr. John W. Thackery as he is appointed chief surgeon at a New York City hospital in the early 1900s, with a prominent donor urging him to select a Black doctor as his lead assistant.

Thackery, frustrated by the hospital's unreliable electrical system, enlists Herman Barrow to procure more cadavers for experimental surgeries. As patient deaths rise, Edwards proposes a French surgical technique but is ignored by Thackery and Gallinger. Meanwhile, Robertson tackles a typhoid outbreak, Elkins is drawn into Thackery's inner circle, Sister Harriet violates a rule, and Edwards finds a new way to carry out his responsibilities.
