Wayne, a 16-year-old with a rebellious streak and a kind heart, embarks on a cross-country dirt-bike journey from Boston to Florida with his new crush, Del, in search of a stolen 1979 Trans Am that belonged to Wayne's late father.

Wayne's inability to complete a simple assignment for Del leads her to doubt her decision to leave Brockton. As a result, Wayne encounters a local criminal with dangerous intentions, putting her life in jeopardy.

Wayne and Del appear on local news, prompting Del to teach Wayne how to lie in order to maintain their image with their new, more popular friends. However, their deception soon unravels as the truth comes to light.

Wayne takes a job as a day laborer following a robbery, while Del becomes preoccupied with the death of a stranger. Meanwhile, Carl and Teddy reflect on their father's true identity as they celebrate their birthday traveling together.

The episode revisits a pivotal day in Del's past, long before he met Wayne, which had a lasting impact on Del, his father, and his brothers.

Del befriends students at a Georgia high school, causing Wayne to fear she may grow attached to her new life there. At the same time, Cole prepares for the Principals Conference with help from Orlando, while Daddy and his associates move closer to them.

Wayne wrestles with the decision to inform Del about her father's hospitalization, while Sergeant Geller devises a plan to catch him and Del in a compromising situation.

Wayne and Del travel to Florida following their first kiss, where they meet the legendary Trans Am. However, Wayne's emotional reunion with his estranged mother, Maureen, leads Del to suspect there may be deeper personal reasons for their journey beyond the search for the car.
