Biography
Irwin Allen Ginsberg (June 3, 1926 – April 5, 1997) was an American poet who emerged as a leading figure of the Beat Generation in the 1950s and the broader counterculture movement that followed. He was known for his strong opposition to militarism, economic materialism, and sexual repression, and for embodying key aspects of the counterculture, including his views on drug use, his hostility toward bureaucracy, and his openness to Eastern religious traditions. Ginsberg was part of a group of influential American writers associated with the Beat Generation, which included Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs.
