Biography

Kenneth Tobey was born in Oakland, California, and initially pursued a legal career before trying acting at the University of California Little Theater. He then studied for a year and a half at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse alongside classmates Gregory Peck, Eli Wallach and Tony Randall. During the 1940s he performed on Broadway and in stock theater, making his film debut in the 1943 short “The Man on the Ferry.” His first Hollywood feature was a Hopalong Cassidy Western, after which he appeared in numerous films and television series. In 1957 he starred as an adventurous helicopter pilot in his own series, Whirlybirds.
