Biography

John Cooper Jr., known professionally as Jackie Cooper, was an American actor and director who began his career as a child performer. He was a featured member of the Our Gang ensemble from 1929 to 1931. At the age of nine, Cooper made history as the only child and youngest person ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1931 film *Skippy*. Over the following decade, he successfully transitioned to adolescent roles in the 1930s and later to adult roles starting in 1940.
